Museu Maritimo in Faro is our first suggestion, as it keeps in line with the spirit of the place, with the ocean nearby, displaying an impressive array of nautical artifacts, like galleons, ships, caravells and steamboats.
Also in Faro, you can visit the Centro Ciencia Viva do Algarve, which was established in August 1997 and offers very interesting information on all things tech. Physics and chemistry have an important place here, as well as the sea that has a permanent exposition dedicated to it.
How about beautiful castles and their undying stories that make you dream of princes and long-lost times? The Moorish Castle in Aljezur gives you an impressive view over the remains of the 10th century Moorish palace that overlooks the traditional town, where you must stop for a Portuguese meal.

Then be sure to stop by the Alcoutim Castle and Archaeological Museum, a well-preserved monument built in the 13th century that overlooks the Guadiana River.
