Algarve awarded Europe’s best Golf Destination title for 2014

Algarve has received the latest in a large number of awards, having been voted to be Europe’s Best Golf Destination for the year 2014, beating out challenges from several other illustrious destinations from around the continent.




Tavira has recognized and protected salt

The Algarve city of Tavira can now claim another unique kind of attraction to within its borders, and that is its salt.

The ‘Flor de sal de Tavira’ has now become a product with a protected origin having made the list of protected products from Brussels.

This used to be a small village but it has grown quite a bit during the past ten years thanks to EN125 running through it. In the old part of the village very little has changed, it still features the very particular narrow lanes and a main street that runs the length of the village, growing narrower near the rather impressive church where it’s only a car’s width.

It has been dubbed as a ‘sacred promontory’ by ancient philosophers and is one of the globe’s major reference points in regards to prehistoric menhirs however, despite all of these fact its recognition as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO has not been granted.

Portuguese tourism officials are celebrating a record-breaking August in terms of tourism revenue and the reason for this being that foreign tourists who otherwise would  probably have visited the Middle East this year but went for a safe destination, choosing alternatives because of unrest in that part of the world.
