Breaking news Summer returns to Algarve

After a rather disappointing summer, declared one of the coolest in the past two decades of Portuguese weather forecast, we receive Breaking news: Summer returns to Algarve in October, with temperatures of up to 27 degrees Celsius!

Such temperatures are unusual even for the Portuguese Algarve, especially since the this summer of 2014 has been one of the rainiest and coldest in history. Octobers in the Algarve are indeed usually warm, with average temperatures of around 19 degrees Celsius and recorded maximum figures of 23°C in Faro, the capital of the littoral region of the sunny Algarve.

With the decrease of the day, of course, there are less hours of sun and therefore a decrease in temperatures is to be expected, even in the sunny Portugal. The influences of the Atlantic Ocean also create a cool breeze, which generally makes the weather considerably cooler than in its neighbouring country Spain, for example. Notwithstanding, October brings hope for the locals that live off tourist activities, as more travelers, especially coming from Western Europe, where the cold rainy autumn has set in for quite a while, are expected to come to the warm welcoming shores of the Atlantic.

The tourist season goes well into autumn, often lasting until the beginning of November. The most popular Algarve destinations include Lagos (with its superb Praia da Rocha beach), Albufeira (once a fishermen’s village, now one of the most thriving Portuguese ports), Portimao (which is precisely preparing for this month’s traditional Fair) and, certainly, Faro City, whose booming economy, picturesque seaside landscapes and developed infrastructure attracts thousands of visitors. People coming to the Algarve to bask in the last days of warmth and sun have a wide variety of transport options available, the most convenient being a private airport transfer, a comfortable alternative to public transport.
