Bollywood is coming to Europe via Portimao, at least according to an agreement between an Indian film and television technology company and Picture Portugal.

The goal of the Indian company is to set up a European office in Portimao and to establish a production partnership for the production of Indian films in Portugal.

Luis Marreiros – CEO of Picture Portugal – considers this partnership to be nothing but beneficial considering that they’re allying themselves with one of the world’s leading film producers.

He continued saying that the next step is to internationalize the project by obtaining foreign collaboration and that via the Indian company, Picture Portugal can get into the Indian market and get Indian producers interested in shooting in Portugal, which would be great for the local and regional economy.

The idea is that Real Image – the Indian company – will maintain contact with their European customers via the Portimao office and will also strive to create new partnerships between producers from the two countries in order to produce new feature films.

As far as Picture Portugal’s part goes, it has confirmed its work into developing a ‘series of intensive contacts’ with India and that this sort of ‘antenna’ into that country and market is relevant primarily as a service provider however it can also result in number of benefits to the overall Portuguese tourism sector.

The hope is that possible film productions can bring crucial income to the region during the tourist low season, not to mention the fact that it can create hundreds if not thousands of jobs for specialists in the field who are otherwise jobless. Portugal does have quite a few advantages thanks to its developed infrastructure, astounding natural beauty and diversity of landscapes.

Picture Portugal has already collaborated with various other foreign companies from the US, Europe and Asia, and they’ve praised Portugal for the quality of its technical and human resources, its accommodation facilities and the wide array of possible filming locations.
