Boliqueime guide
We haven’t talked about Algarve towns and cities in a while so it’s time to look at a Boliqueime guide and bring you some knowledge about this small village, located in the district of Loule.
We’ve mentioned in a couple of other articles about the region’s affinity towards elaborate chimneys, and this place is not an exception. The chimneys here come in all shapes and sizes, and it is said that the larger and more elaborate the chimney, the more wealthy you are, but one can see quite grand chimneys on small cottages, so who knows how much truth there is in this saying.
The village actually has the largest cement factory in the region and can be seen from the A22 motorway, being located at about 45 metres above sea level, so it offers some good views as well.
The centre of the village features a small square which in turn has a main church which dominates it. From the square, many narrow and cobble stoned streets diverge, and walking along them will make for a great exploration of the village’s past. You can still see remnant of some of the wealth of its past, with merchants houses featuring stone door surrounds, as well as iron balconies and window grills.
We like to give some attention to the place with this quick Boliqueime guide because many visitors wouldn’t find a reason to visit the village, but the village features two smaller parishes, of Fonte De and Poco De Boliqueime, and they do not represent actual Boliquieme, you need to drive further up in order to reach the actual village, which offers a different type of experience. This is one reason why some Algarve car rental services are ideal when exploring the region because you can get to see it in so much more detail than you would be able otherwise.
