Farewell Summer at Fatacil Festival
We have approached the end of summer (if we are to trust the calendar, at least), so it is time the Algarve prepare for a long and warm autumn the way the Portuguese know best: with a big party. Annually, people come to Lagoa to say Farewell Summer at Fatacil Festival.
They may live by the shores of the endless Atlantic Ocean, but the Portuguese are quite Mediterranean in both cuisine and in the way they celebrate and enjoy life and all its aspects.
Fatacil Festival is no different from most festivals in Portugal: there is entertainment for everyone, for adults and kids alike, there is music, food, fun and laughter and everyone, locals and tourists gather around the plaza of Lagoa to celebrate the cultural heritage and the agricultural riches of the region.
This is the 35th edition of the Fatacil Festival, and you are still on time to catch the last days of celebration, as the partying, for this event at least, ends on August 24th. The central interest of the festival are the handicraft (made by 180 artisans) and the agricultural products: sweets, fruit, sausages, honey, canned fish and cork being just a few examples. There is also a section of livestock, where local breeds of goats and sheep are not to be missed!
Life and entertainment, fun and colour fill the streets of Lagoa, as well as much music and artistic performances. Fatacil Festival 2014 provides an extra dose of entertainment through performances of local musicians such as Pedro Frias Band, Beto Kalulu, José Praia and Áqua Viva, Joana Rodeira, Ricardo Sousa, Luís Vieira, Benvindo Barros, Folequestra, Traditional Singing Group of Parchal and Fonte Nova, etc. Certainly, what would Portugal be without its melancholy Fado? Pedro Viola, Cremilde, Helder Coelho, and Ana Marques provide an unforgettable night of sheer Portuguese sound experience, so if you are in the area, don’t miss the chance to take say Farewell Summer at Fatacil Festival!
