Portugal is being praised by international travel industry
The year has barely gotten underway but it appears that Portugal’s reputation as a top holiday destination for 2014 is starting to grow. Two internationally-respected names have recently appointed Portugal as being ‘one to watch’ in 2014.
American Fodor’s, is an extremely valued publisher of travel guides, one of the largest in the world, and it has chosen Portugal’s Vale do Duoro to be amongst its 25 must-see destination for 2014, the choice being made by the editor-in-chief herself, Arabella Bowen.
The Vale do Douro region was described as being ‘the most beautiful wine-producing region in the world’ and ‘one of Europe’s lesser-known jewels’.
The Go List 2014 piece also highlights the ‘accessible, profound and rich red wine from the Douro’, while at the same time praising the ‘fizzy green wines’.
From the UK, the leading travel association ABTA is also endorsing Portugal by listing it as a ‘destination to watch’ for 2014.
This list features twelve different destinations and wishes to be an inspiration to holiday makers to try out new experiences or to see some old favorites through new eyes.
ABTA considers the Algarve is still one of the top destinations of British tourists, being one of the ten best tourist destinations for 2014.
The ABTA report highlight the many charms of the region, mentioning its year-round good climate, with surfers and more adventurous holidaymakers going there for the big waves and dramatic coves featured along the coast.
Another showcase was Portuguese gastronomy, saying that Portuguese food is amongst the best and oftentimes underrated in Europe, being characterized by marinated meats and fresh grilled fish all of which gets washed down with delicious young white wine and some great deserts.
So it seems that the entire country is being put in a good light, it remains to be seen what if any affect this will have on the Algarve tourism number.
