The Centre Algarve project is close to being completed and will be opening its doors to the public on Saturday, October 19 from 11 AM to 5 PM.

Set in the outskirts of Moncarapacho, the new residential holiday centre is meant to cater to children with special needs, being the first such centre in Europe. The grounds have been adapted so as to provide the specialist equipment and facilities needed to create an environment for the most profound of special needs guests, according to the project developers.

Some of the bedrooms will be serviced by three hygiene rooms with wet beds, rise-and-fall sinks as well as wheelchair accessible shower rooms.

The Centre also applied for permission to build a teaching classroom and that request was recently approved by Olhao Camara and a lot of hard work is being expended in getting the building ready on time for its opening.

The official opening has an open invite to everyone, all are welcome to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and see the large amounts of progress that has happened thanks to the many volunteers from across the globe.

Besides featuring a wide range of exotic birds and animals the centre recently came to the rescue of a special care goat named Bambina, who lost a leg in an accident.

The Centre’s manager, Tom Willis, explained that they took in Bambina because they could give her the care and attention she needs and also ensure she gets the correct veterinary care and medication. He also mentioned that they would like a friend for her, so another donated miniature goat would be great.

The Centre Algarve is located on the Moncarapacho road to Olhao, about a kilometer outside of Moncarapacho.
