Algarve: Tax Haven and Heaven for Europe’s Seniors
One of Europe’s secrets – revealed in recent years – is a region in Portugal where the sun never seems to set, summer lasts for half a year and the Ocean touches the land, the Algarve: Tax Haven and Heaven for Europe’s Seniors.
Displaying around 100 miles of Atlantic beach, the Algarve, with its most popular cities, such as Lagos, Lagoa, Albufeira, Portimao, Olhao or Faro, the capital city of the region, is a mirage for more and more elderly Europeans. And the reasons are not just the obvious: the sun and the fun. There are financial advantages to be taken into account, as the Algarve is a fiscal haven, presenting Europe with the lowest cost of living in the Western side of the continent.
The Algarve combines the continental bourgeois lifestyle of England or France (minus the bad weather) and the low prices of the central and southern side of Europe. Everything, of course, in a heavenly landscape and offering lots of pass-time alternatives for of the retired Europe’s retired.
As a holiday destination, but also as a place to move to, Algrave is particularly appealing to British people and Scandinavians for another reason: in 2014, it has (again) won the title of “best golf destination in the world”, which is more than enough reason for many people to move into a new neighbourhood… even to a new country!
Apart from this, there are beautiful residences that can be quickly and stress-free bought for affordable prices. Since the economic crisis, Portugal has been struggling to stay afloat, and the real estate market is giving significant signs of improvement, just as the infrastructure in the Algarve (reason for which transportation and the option of car rentals and transfers are blossoming here).
So if you count yourself among the lucky happy seniors of Europe, you may look into the option of moving to this h(e)aven. And even if you are a couple of generations away from retirement, we advise you to treat yourself to a trip to this earthly paradise!
