If nobody has ever told you, know now that the blissful sunbathed shores of the Portuguese seaside is exactly where you want to be on the first day of summer. The weather here is sunny and warm, but mild and always pleasant, the people are welcoming and you will feel happy and at home. For the more active among you, here are a few Algarve events for June 2015 you might just like to look into for your trip.
Quite unsurprisingly, June 1st is a busy, happy and eventful day. Did you know there is a Clam Picking event? Rather, it is an activity organized at the Ria Formosa, one of the greatest natural parks in the country. This activity, however, entails more than bending and picking seashells off the shore. It is a true adventure, in a traditional wooden boat, a day in a fisherman’s life with lunch and dinner included. It’s something to look into if you feel like combining activities with being out in the open air.
In Aljezur, on each month’s first Saturday, from June to October, you are invited to attend the local market, Feira da Terra, where you can buy local produce and admire handicrafts and the free life here.
But perhaps the most important event in June, all throughout the country and particularly in the Algarve region, is the Popular Saints Festival. Beginning on June 12th and ending on the 28th of the same month, this is the occasion for people to celebrate the local saints: St. Anthony, St. Peter and St. John. There are events held all over the region, the streets become filled with buzz and excitement and everywhere there is the aroma of roasts, toasts and sweet wine, all on the soundtrack of traditional Portuguese music.
The Porto Bay event is one of the options you can explore, combining the fun of sharing a barbecue with music and dance in a cosmopolitan atmosphere. But also in Quarteira the fun will reach the highest levels with outdoors parades with professional dances and music.
