Quinta do Lago course undergoing major refurbishment
Quinta do Lago has recently started some major renovations of its North Course, meant to match the other first-class golfing facilities at this very prestigious Algarve resort.
The course is scheduled to re-open in October 2014, the new redesigned course having been drawn up by renowned American golf architect Beau Welling with help from European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.
The routing of the course will not change however, the overall course strategy will be addressed to make the par-72 layout considerably more approachable for all golfers, while at the same time still being a challenge to more experienced players.
Welling worked with Tom Fazio for more than ten years and has garnered more than 90 projects to his name, including the re-design of the famous PGA Tour course Quail Hollow.
He plans to make the ‘new’ North Course substantially more playable by offering the opportunity to adjust the golf course strategy, while also introducing many different shot options from golfers of all skill levels.
The Quonta do Lago course is seen as one of the most highly regarded golf and residential development in the Algarve since it opened back in 1972. Being set amongst two thousand acres of the picturesque Ria Formosa Natural Park the course has been at the forefront of golf in the Algarve playing host to three 18-hole championship courses – Quinta do Lago North and South courses and Laranjal. The course is accompanied by some outstanding practice facilities at the Paul McGinley Academy as well as the new TaylorMade Fitting Centre.
The resort offers many more leisure facilities so as to guarantee that thereare plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied, organizing special events as well as the ability to enjoy a plethora of sports.
