Algarve wine tasting dinner to benefit international polio initiative
We like to talk about many facets of life in the Algarve and today we’ll be mentioning about the Algarve chapter of the Rotarians’ Wine Appreciation Fellowship sponsoring a fun-filled event meant to benefit the multi-national campaign End Polio Now, meant to eradicate the wild polio virus.
The event will take place on Friday, 4th October, so if you’re nearby, make sure to join in the effort at a special fundraising dinner which will be featuring the award-winning wined of Quinta do Pinto. Interesting sidenote, the owner of the quinta is himself a polio survivor so has a very personal interest in the success of this project.
The evening will start at 8PM at the Restaurante/Garrafeira Veneza in Mem Moniz, north of Albufeira. A selection of wines will be features by Rita Cardoso Pinto – the daughter of the producer – which will be paired with the appropriate food. At this evening, the wines will be available for purchase at special prives while the price for the evening will be 35 Euros per person, 10 of which will be going directly to the campaign.
The End Polio Now campaign is a joint programme supported by the World Health Organization, UNICEF, Rotary International and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The campaign is a final push to wipe out this crippling disease in Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan, the very few remaining countries where the wild virus is still active.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has recently announced a special programme through which the funds raised by Rotary will be trebled, so this means that your 10 Euros will transform into 30 Euros, which is more than 65 vaccinations.
The great thing is that you can have a great time, either by yourself of if you come with friends, and also benefit a worthy a project.
