Fatacil fair returns on August 15

The Fatacil fair is set to return on August 15 and it promises a new format as well as cheaper tickets.

This is an attempt of reviving the fair after some problems that saw a special audit organized to delve into the massive 700,000 Euro debt that the fair garnered.

The Lagoa mayor Francisco martins entered the fray last year, accusing the fair organizers of scuppering the event due to poor organization and maybe not the best of motives.

It appears that now the differences have been put aside and the fair is firing on all cylinders as the borough is trying to re-invent Fatacil’s 35-year reputation. According to the Mayor, the organizers are committed to reviving and making a great event.

The ticket prices have been lowered from last time’s five Euro to 3.50 so as to better cater for the ‘economic reality of families across the country’ while at the same time the main music stage has been moved to a larger space in order to increase the number of potential spectators.

A secondary stage will be also set up near the food court.

Some of Portugal’s top musical acts have already confirmed their presence, including rock band Xutos e Pontapes, singer-songwriter Pedro Abrunhosa, Fado singer Ana moura and the master of innuendos Quim Barreirors – a very popular Portuguese singer who normally attracts a solid crowd.

The refurbished fairground will also include a new playing area for children as well as an ensemble of street performers that will be providing entertainment throughout the fair.

This year’s fair will be themed around the sea, so this means that many sea-related products will be on display and the 11 participating restaurants will be showcasing great local seafood dishes.

The main goal of the fair will still be the promotion of regional handicraft, tourism, agriculture, commerce and gastronomy.
