Algarve Tourism Board launches New Year campaign
The Algarve Tourism Board – RTA – recently launched a new multimedia campaign meant to sway Portuguese and Spanish tourists into spending their New Year’s in the region.
This is planned to be a two-week campaign which will involve outdoor billboards, busses, advertisements in the press, on television and radio, as well as ATM machines.
As part of this marketing strategy, iconic spots in Lisbon and Oporto will be filled with balloons so as to show that there is no better place than the Algarve, in which to welcome 2014.
The entire campaign will last sixteen days and will involve 1,100 outdoor billboards located in shopping centres and subway and train stations, as well as 775 buses driving in Lisbon, Oporto and Braga, fifteen adverts in magazines in Portugal and Spain, 260 spots on national and Spanish radio and finishing up with advertisements in 2,250 cash withdrawal machines all throughout the country.
The RTA wishes to encourage all those who have not yet made New Year’s celebration plans to make some and spend the occasion in the Algarve, in exchange promising to celebrate the passing of the year with pomp and circumstance.
According to a statement by RTA president, Desiderio Silva, this campaign represents a major investment by the RTA, and it is meant to paint the Algarve as the ideal destination for the reveillon, considering that the usual entertainment organized by local councils, hotels and restaurants gets a boost during this time.
He added that the campaign is aimed at an extended internal market – made up of Portugal and Spain – and the idea is to represent New Year as a great moment to celebrate while at the same time taking a break from the daily routine, in the Algarve.
