The historic Lethes Theatre in Faro will be hosting the Angels Theatre Group and their show entitle ‘A Night at the Ritz – A celebration of the World and Music of Cole Porter’ which will run for only two performances on the 2nd and 3rd of November.

The Saturday performance will feature a cash bar that will be open for pre-theathre cocktails. The doors open at 7PM and those coming are welcome to dress up for the occasion. Sunday’s performance will feature an extended interval which will give patrons the opportunity to purchase afternoon tea and cake.

The theatre group will perform a selection of over twenty Porter songs, taken from several musicals, each of them woven into a separate storyline for each performance. Porter’s witty and clever lyrics illustrate his tremendous talent and they are proof of their lasting enjoyment.

The Angels ‘entertain for charity’ and all proceeds will go to the ‘Home Service Support Porject’ run by Faro Red Cross, which gives direct help to families in crisis.

The 15 Euro tickets can be reserved via the Internet by emailing your details and which performance you want to book with further details being available on www.angelstheatregroup.com.

The Lethes Theatre building was originally built as a Jesuit College back in 1599. General Junot’s troops used the building during the Napoleonic Wars and in 1843 it was bought by Dr. Doglioni, who transformed it into a theatre along the line of the Sao Carlos Opera house in Lisbon – which itself was modeled on the La Scapa Opera House in Milan.

The theatre saw a constant upgrading programme until 1908, at one time having its own orchestra.

The painted ceilings come thanks to the artist Philip Jose Porfirio, but ever since talking films became the norm, the theatre closed its doors in 1925.

The building has been going through several restoration programmes since the 1990’s.
