The Algarve tourism season is starting to ramp up, with May getting closer and closer the Algarve Tourism Association – ATA – has established partnerships with more than 20 tour operators from a variety of markets as well as 11 airlines in order to boost the regional tourism and the local economy.

We’ve been talking a fair amount about the various discussions and policies taking place or being implemented, and this is one of them. This partnership also includes several marketing campaigns that are part of a larger promotional action approved by Turismo de Portugal for 2013.

These strategies have been implemented by ATA since January with the collaboration from a variety of tour operators from many European countries including Germany, the UK, Spain, The Netherlands, Ireland, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Belgium and France.

According to this overall plan of ‘attack’, a total of 29 campaigns will be launched throughout this year as part of the ‘sun, sea and golf’ promotional message meant to attract more visitors to the Algarve.

Part of this overall plan is a strategy to support the airlines with ATA aiming to not only consolidate existing tourism routes but also to create new connections in order to attract other potential markets, farther away markets such as Canada for instance. As we mentioned earlier, eleven airlines will be receiving the full support from the association to carry out a variety of localized promotional campaigns in countries like Canada, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Holland, Ireland, the UK and Germany.

It’s pretty clear that there are several potential and emerging markets that are yet to be covered by this strategic plan from the Algarve Tourism Association , places like Russia and other Eastern European countries. For these regions, ATA has chosen the option of ‘taking the Algarve to them’, by way of making presentations and workshops in the main cities of these various countries and inviting tour operators, travel agencies and journalists to learn about and visit the Algarve.

Visiting the Algarve during spring and summer breaks offers you pretty much unrivalled holiday opportunities for entertainment, culture, great food and drink and of course sun, sea and sand.

The sun drenched Atlantic coastline is famous for its wild beauty, featuring miles upon miles of sundrenched beaches, it is for many a great spring and summer destination. In fact most of the Algarve visitors will simply prefer to laze on the soft sands of sheltered coves, soaking up the sun and enjoying a swim or two, in the crystal clear waters of the coast.

However that is not what the region has to offer, not by far, those looking for a more active holiday, or those on a more adventurous streak can pursue a wide range of activities such as fishing, diving, horse-riding, windsurfing, sailing and many-many more. Nature lovers will also be thrilled to visit the region because there are several nature reserves to explore, such as Ria de Albor and Ria Formosa – both of them are paradises for bird-watchers, while those who are interested in wildlife in general can enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the forested hills.

You happen to be a golfing enthusiast? Well then you’ll be visiting one of the best places for the sport on the entire surface of the European continent. There are somewhere around thirty top-notch golf courses in the Algarve, which cover the entire range of skill level, so rest assured that whether you’re looking for a challenge or you’re just a beginner, this region will have something ready for you.

Those interested in diving into the local traditions and culture will find exactly what they’re looking for, in the many small Algarve towns and villages that dot the landscape. It should be noted that the main resorts are rather touristy, so for such an experience you’ll want to venture a bit off the very beaten tracks.

All of these attractions, and more are available to you with the help of our Algarve car rental services.

Golfing holidays in the Algarve

Portugal’s Algarve region is quite possibly Europe’s most popular vacation destination. Due to its location on the southernmost region of the country and indeed of the Iberian peninsula, the Algarve benefits from some spectacular weather all year round. When you couple that fact with the almost two hundred kilometers of beach it shouldn’t come as a surprise why this region of Europe is so popular with tourists.

The Algarve, place for sun, sea and golf

Algarve Golf Club

Now those characteristics would be quite enough for the region as a tourist magnet but the Algarve offers so much more than just great weather and beaches, the region has great resorts, great food, unique culture and not least the best golf courses in Europe.

The popularity of golf has increased considerably in the past decade with more and more people, of all ages, becoming fans and enthusiasts of this originally Scottish sport.

All of these golf enthusiasts will be glad to find out that the Algarve is in fact home to well over thirty world-class championship golf courses all of which are situated within short one to two hour drives from any of the main resorts or cities in the region.

One of the many great things about golfing in the Algarve is the fact that the facilities here have been around for quite a while and they’ve been attracting a constant stream of players ever since so they are very well maintained and the services that they provide are top notch.

Another great thing related to Algarve golfing is also one of the main characteristics of the region as a whole, its wonderful weather. As stated earlier the weather itself would have been enough of a pull for visitors from the chillier areas of the continent but when you couple that great weather with the opportunity to play eighteen holes on a top tier course during the winter season it’s simple to understand why this is such a popular attraction to the region.

Enthusiasm for the sport, any sport, brings with it a certain amount of investment, be it financial or emotional, in the case of most games or sports it is both and golf is no exception; however when it comes to golf the financial investment can be a rather serious one when you’re talking about top notch, state of the art clubs. While these are designed to hit a golf ball with as much power and precision as possible they themselves are not designed to withstand hits, so transporting golf clubs can always turn into a problem.

The problem can be two-fold, one is related to the extra cost that one would have to incur in order to carry their clubs with them and the other being that there is no way of guaranteeing absolutely that they won’t get damaged or worse, stolen, during the trip, so this is a thing that many golfing enthusiasts have to deal with when they consider visiting the Algarve particularly for the golfing opportunities.

Thankfully since golfing is so popular in the area, adjacent industries have sprung up around it offering various services to golfing enthusiasts, services such as golf club hire services which will allow the golfer to get the best of both worlds, he or she will be able to play golf in this stunning environment and not fret about their prized golf clubs, everybody wins.
