Late August is when the Algarve truly embraces the final weeks of summer. Across the region, historic towns, seaside villages, and lively coastal resorts become the setting for music festivals, cultural celebrations, traditional events, and unforgettable evenings by the Atlantic. Whether you’re visiting for the beaches, food, nightlife, or local traditions, the Algarve’s event calendar adds another exciting dimension to your holiday.
From large-scale regional festivals to centuries-old celebrations and lively beach parties, there is something for every type of traveler. If you’re planning a summer getaway, these five events are among the best ways to experience the Algarve while making the most of the warm Mediterranean climate.

1. FATACIL – Lagoa | 21–30 August 2026
One of the Algarve’s most important summer events, FATACIL brings together agriculture, gastronomy, handicrafts, local products, entertainment, and live music in Lagoa. Taking place from 21 to 30 August, the festival attracts visitors from across the region and offers an excellent opportunity to experience the traditional side of Algarve culture.
Alongside exhibitions and regional food, visitors can enjoy concerts, equestrian shows, folklore, and a lively atmosphere that continues late into the evening. Whether you’re travelling with family, friends, or simply looking to discover more of Portuguese culture, FATACIL is one of the highlights of the Algarve summer.

2. Medieval Days – Castro Marim | 26–30 August 2026
For a completely different experience, the Medieval Days in Castro Marim transport visitors back in time. From 26 to 30 August, the historic town and castle become the setting for medieval performances, parades, traditional music, crafts, food, and spectacular historical entertainment.
The event combines the atmosphere of a medieval festival with the impressive surroundings of Castro Marim, making it particularly appealing for visitors who want to explore the eastern Algarve. It is also a great opportunity to combine the festival with a road trip to nearby Tavira, Monte Gordo, or Vila Real de Santo António.
If you’re planning to explore several parts of the Algarve, Lagos Car Hire offers a convenient way to travel at your own pace, with car hire options designed for visitors exploring the region.

3. Multicultural Night & Banho 29 – Aljezur | 28–29 August 2026
The end of August is a particularly interesting time to visit Aljezur, where local celebrations combine music, food, culture, and traditional customs. The Multicultural Night and municipal celebrations take place around 28–29 August, creating a lively atmosphere in one of the Algarve’s most charming inland towns.
One of the highlights of this period is Banho 29, a traditional late-August sea-bathing celebration. Alongside the festivities, visitors can explore the surrounding Costa Vicentina, including beautiful beaches and some of the region’s most dramatic Atlantic scenery.
Having a car makes it much easier to discover this part of the Algarve, especially if you want to combine Aljezur with nearby beaches and coastal villages.
For travellers arriving at Faro Airport, arranging your transport in advance can make the start of your holiday much easier. Faro Airport Transfers provides a convenient way to travel directly from the airport to your accommodation.

4. Carvoeiro Beach Party – 29 August 2026
For visitors looking for music and nightlife, the Carvoeiro Beach Party is one of the most exciting events of the final weekend of August. Taking place on 29 August, the event brings music and entertainment to the heart of Carvoeiro, with performances continuing into the early hours.
The combination of a beautiful Algarve beach, warm summer temperatures, and an energetic evening atmosphere makes this an ideal event for couples, groups of friends, and younger travellers looking to experience the Algarve after dark.
Carvoeiro’s location also makes it easy to combine the party with a day exploring the surrounding coastline, enjoying the area’s famous beaches, cliffs, and restaurants before the evening festivities begin.

5. Nossa Senhora da Encarnação Celebrations – Carvoeiro | Late August 2026
The final weekend of August is also an important time for the traditional Nossa Senhora da Encarnação celebrations in Carvoeiro. The event offers visitors an opportunity to experience the Algarve’s religious and community traditions while enjoying the lively atmosphere of one of the region’s best-known coastal villages.
Traditional celebrations, local customs, and the atmosphere around the village provide a different perspective on the Algarve, beyond its beaches and tourist resorts. Visitors can combine the celebrations with a walk along the coast, dinner overlooking the Atlantic, and the Carvoeiro Beach Party later in the evening. For those planning to explore more of the Algarve during their stay, having a rental car makes it easier to move between coastal towns, beaches, and evening events without relying on public transport.

With festivals and celebrations taking place across different parts of the Algarve, planning your transportation in advance allows you to make the most of your holiday. Booking your airport transfer with Faro Airport Transfers provides a comfortable and hassle-free start to your trip, giving you more time to explore the region’s beaches, historic towns, and lively events.
For travellers who want to discover more than one destination, Lagos Car Hire offers the flexibility to explore the Algarve by car, from Lagos and Aljezur to Lagoa, Carvoeiro, and Castro Marim.
From major summer festivals and medieval celebrations to traditional local events and unforgettable evenings by the sea, late August is the perfect time to experience the Algarve at its most vibrant, lively, and welcoming.

As spring settles over Faro, the city begins to reveal a more relaxed and authentic side of the Algarve. April is a transitional month, warm enough to enjoy long days outdoors, yet calm before the peak summer rush. During this time, Faro’s cultural calendar starts to build momentum, offering a mix of food, music, student traditions, and nature-focused events.
Rather than large-scale tourist crowds, visitors can experience a more local atmosphere, where festivals feel accessible, diverse, and closely connected to the region’s identity. It’s the perfect moment to explore Faro at a comfortable pace while still enjoying a rich variety of seasonal events.

1. Algarve Chefs Week – Mid to Late April 2026
Spring in Faro starts with a celebration of flavor during Algarve Chefs Week, a regional event that highlights the Algarve’s culinary identity.
Restaurants across Faro and nearby towns offer specially curated menus focused on seasonal ingredients such as fresh seafood, local produce, and regional wines. It’s a great opportunity to experience both traditional Portuguese dishes and more modern interpretations in a refined yet accessible setting.
For visitors, this event goes beyond dining- it’s a way to connect with local culture through food, while exploring different venues across the city.

2. Festival Internacional de Jazz do Algarve – Mid-April 2026
Music lovers will appreciate the relaxed elegance of the International Jazz Festival of the Algarve, which brings a sophisticated cultural atmosphere to Faro.
Performances are typically hosted in smaller venues, creating an intimate connection between artists and audiences. The lineup blends international talent with Portuguese musicians, offering a diverse musical experience.
Combined with Faro’s scenic evenings, the festival becomes more than just a concert- it’s an opportunity to enjoy live music in a laid-back, atmospheric setting.

3. Semana Académica do Algarve – Late April to Early May 2026
As April progresses, Faro becomes more energetic with the arrival of Semana Académica, organized by students from the University of Algarve.
This lively festival includes concerts, parades, and themed nightlife events that transform the city into a hub of celebration. While rooted in student traditions, it attracts a wider audience and offers visitors a chance to experience Portugal’s youthful and social side.
Expect a vibrant atmosphere, especially in the evenings, with large open-air events and a strong sense of community.

4. Ria Formosa Nature Festival – Late April 2026
For a quieter and more natural experience, events around the Ria Formosa Natural Park provide a refreshing contrast.
This festival focuses on the region’s unique ecosystem, offering activities such as guided walks, birdwatching, and boat tours through lagoons and islands. It’s an excellent way to explore one of Portugal’s most important natural areas while learning about its biodiversity.
The combination of scenic landscapes and educational experiences makes it ideal for travelers looking to balance culture with nature.

5. Faro Cultural Spring Events (Cidade Velha Series) – Late April 2026
Throughout late April, the historic Cidade Velha hosts a variety of smaller cultural events that showcase the city’s creative side.
These include live music, art exhibitions, and local performances set against the backdrop of Faro’s old town. The intimate scale of these events allows visitors to engage more closely with local artists and traditions.
They offer a more authentic and relaxed cultural experience, perfect for those who prefer discovering a destination beyond large festivals.

Spring in Faro offers a well-balanced mix of gastronomy, music, youthful energy, and natural beauty, without the intensity of peak season. With events spread across the city and surrounding areas, planning your transport in advance can make your trip far more enjoyable.
For convenient and reliable travel, you can book professional taxi services and airport transfers with Faro Transfers, ensuring a smooth, door-to-door experience from arrival to destination.
If you prefer more flexibility, renting a car through Lagos Car Hire allows you to explore the Algarve at your own pace, from coastal spots to natural parks and nearby towns.
With the right balance of planning and spontaneity, Faro in spring becomes an easy and memorable destination to explore.

Summer is high season in Portugal, on all levels, especially when we talk of the seaside, souther region of the country. Today we would like to discover together the Secret Algarve, the best unknown attractions in the region.

Summer is high season in Portugal, on all levels, especially when we talk of the seaside, souther region of the country. Today we would like to discover together the Secret Algarve, the best unknown attractions in the region.

Everybody knows that Portugal in its southern region is the ultimate seaside destination, with fun in the sun and sand and seashells, the numerous resorts and holiday facilities ensuring great family holidays and enjoyable stays by the shore of the Atlantic Ocean.

But the Algarve is so much more: it is an interesting realm, dipped in history and boasting with a rich culture. Apart from the great centers of Faro, Portimao or Lagos, there are countless cities and villages, sites and parks that deserve our attention in the Algarve. Here are a few:

If you hire a car in the Algarve, you can go exploring beyond the borders of Albufeira into Guia, a very old and peaceful settlement just off the coast. It is the best place to escape crowds and heat, where you can admire agriculture, picturesque sites or lie in the sand on secluded beaches.

The Monchique hills are filled with flowers, cool and fresh, so if you like hiking, this is the place for you.

As for Carrapateira, Aljezur, this is the best surfing destination. But it is also suitable for a day’s trip if you want to visit the old fort or the local church.

Olhao is also probably one of the most underrated cities in the Algarve. A medieval fishing town, Olhao is located just 20 kilometers away from Faro (you can book a Faro transfer to get there). The city has it all: great architecture, local colour, shops and markets, restaurants, hotels and gorgeous, less visited beaches.

We hope you find these ideas useful in planning your Algarve trip!

Portugal is not all about superficial fun in the sun, so here are the best Algarve events this July 2015.

If you are not already lying in the sun, on the warm sand of the Portuguese seashore, we recommend planning to do so in the nearest future; and mind you, this country is not all about superficial fun in the sun, so here are the best Algarve events this July 2015.

You might not think about it at first, but food is a pivotal constituent of a culture, and the Portuguese cuisine tells tales of its Moorish past and the brave Reconquista, so tasting it while on vacation here is a must. If you love food, join the Lagos Food Fest 2015 in Jardim da Constituicao between the 3rd and the 5th of July. Entry is free and you should expect the best food and drinks from the stands and vans in an entertaining atmosphere. You can rent a car in Lagos to move around town and its surroundings, by the way.

Between the 11th and 15th of July, car lovers are invited to the Algarve Classic Cars 2015, an event which has reached its 22nd edition. Based in Tivoli Marina Vilamoura, this amazing festival promises entertainment and excitement for local and international guests alike.

Do you want to build a… sandcastle? This can prove to be an amazing opportunity to spend quality time with your family, so take them all with you and come to Quinta do Lago Beach for the Sandcastle Competition from the 16th of July 2015 to August 20th. The most creative ephemeral building will be rewarded. If you are staying someplace in the Algarve, you can count of Faro transfers for transportation in the region and outside it, so there’s no need to worry.

Apart from these event, there are monthly fairs held in Faro, Loule or Monchique, and the Algarve International Motorbike meeting that is held in the region’s capital city, Faro. So come to the Algarve!
