As spring settles over Faro, the city begins to reveal a more relaxed and authentic side of the Algarve. April is a transitional month, warm enough to enjoy long days outdoors, yet calm before the peak summer rush. During this time, Faro’s cultural calendar starts to build momentum, offering a mix of food, music, student traditions, and nature-focused events.
Rather than large-scale tourist crowds, visitors can experience a more local atmosphere, where festivals feel accessible, diverse, and closely connected to the region’s identity. It’s the perfect moment to explore Faro at a comfortable pace while still enjoying a rich variety of seasonal events.

1. Algarve Chefs Week – Mid to Late April 2026
Spring in Faro starts with a celebration of flavor during Algarve Chefs Week, a regional event that highlights the Algarve’s culinary identity.
Restaurants across Faro and nearby towns offer specially curated menus focused on seasonal ingredients such as fresh seafood, local produce, and regional wines. It’s a great opportunity to experience both traditional Portuguese dishes and more modern interpretations in a refined yet accessible setting.
For visitors, this event goes beyond dining- it’s a way to connect with local culture through food, while exploring different venues across the city.

2. Festival Internacional de Jazz do Algarve – Mid-April 2026
Music lovers will appreciate the relaxed elegance of the International Jazz Festival of the Algarve, which brings a sophisticated cultural atmosphere to Faro.
Performances are typically hosted in smaller venues, creating an intimate connection between artists and audiences. The lineup blends international talent with Portuguese musicians, offering a diverse musical experience.
Combined with Faro’s scenic evenings, the festival becomes more than just a concert- it’s an opportunity to enjoy live music in a laid-back, atmospheric setting.

3. Semana Académica do Algarve – Late April to Early May 2026
As April progresses, Faro becomes more energetic with the arrival of Semana Académica, organized by students from the University of Algarve.
This lively festival includes concerts, parades, and themed nightlife events that transform the city into a hub of celebration. While rooted in student traditions, it attracts a wider audience and offers visitors a chance to experience Portugal’s youthful and social side.
Expect a vibrant atmosphere, especially in the evenings, with large open-air events and a strong sense of community.

4. Ria Formosa Nature Festival – Late April 2026
For a quieter and more natural experience, events around the Ria Formosa Natural Park provide a refreshing contrast.
This festival focuses on the region’s unique ecosystem, offering activities such as guided walks, birdwatching, and boat tours through lagoons and islands. It’s an excellent way to explore one of Portugal’s most important natural areas while learning about its biodiversity.
The combination of scenic landscapes and educational experiences makes it ideal for travelers looking to balance culture with nature.

5. Faro Cultural Spring Events (Cidade Velha Series) – Late April 2026
Throughout late April, the historic Cidade Velha hosts a variety of smaller cultural events that showcase the city’s creative side.
These include live music, art exhibitions, and local performances set against the backdrop of Faro’s old town. The intimate scale of these events allows visitors to engage more closely with local artists and traditions.
They offer a more authentic and relaxed cultural experience, perfect for those who prefer discovering a destination beyond large festivals.

Spring in Faro offers a well-balanced mix of gastronomy, music, youthful energy, and natural beauty, without the intensity of peak season. With events spread across the city and surrounding areas, planning your transport in advance can make your trip far more enjoyable.
For convenient and reliable travel, you can book professional taxi services and airport transfers with Faro Transfers, ensuring a smooth, door-to-door experience from arrival to destination.
If you prefer more flexibility, renting a car through Lagos Car Hire allows you to explore the Algarve at your own pace, from coastal spots to natural parks and nearby towns.
With the right balance of planning and spontaneity, Faro in spring becomes an easy and memorable destination to explore.

February is one of the Algarve’s most appealing months for travellers who value atmosphere, authenticity and space to explore. The winter crowds have faded, yet the region remains bathed in soft Atlantic light and mild temperatures ideal for sightseeing, outdoor events and cultural discovery. As locals emerge from the quieter months, towns and villages across southern Portugal come alive with festivals, sporting spectacles and seasonal traditions that reflect the Algarve at its most expressive.
With events spread across the coast and inland hills, planning smooth transport is essential. Many visitors choose to pre-book reliable arrivals through Faro Airport Transfers, then enjoy the freedom of exploring the region at their own pace with Lagos Car Hire, turning each festival into part of a wider Algarve journey.

1. Loulé Carnival
Location: Loulé
Dates: 15–17 February 2026
Loulé Carnival is the Algarve’s most iconic winter celebration and one of Portugal’s longest-running carnival traditions. For three days leading up to Lent, the town’s central avenue becomes a vibrant stage of color, music and satire. Elaborately decorated floats roll through the streets, dancers perform choreographed routines to samba rhythms, and costumes range from playful to politically sharp, reflecting current events with humor and flair.
The carnival atmosphere extends well beyond the parades, with cafés, bars and street stalls buzzing throughout the day. Unlike larger European carnivals, Loulé retains a strong community feel, making it easy for visitors to feel part of the celebration rather than spectators on the sidelines. Staying nearby or arriving via Faro Airport Transfers ensures easy access, while a rental car allows travellers to combine Carnival with visits to surrounding villages and countryside viewpoints.

2. Almond Blossom Cross Country
Location: Albufeira
Date: 8 February 2026
The Almond Blossom Cross Country race is one of the Algarve’s most established international sporting events and marks the subtle transition from winter to early spring. Held amid blossoming almond trees, this prestigious athletics competition attracts elite runners from across Europe alongside enthusiastic amateur participants. The course winds through open countryside near Albufeira, offering spectators a rare chance to enjoy high-level sport in a relaxed, scenic setting.
Beyond the race itself, the event creates a lively weekend atmosphere, with athletes, supporters and visitors filling local cafés and coastal promenades. Even for non-runners, the almond blossoms and fresh February air make this an ideal time to explore the surrounding area. With Lagos Car Hire, visitors can easily combine the event with coastal walks, cliff-top viewpoints and neighbouring towns along the central Algarve.

3. Volta ao Algarve
Location: Across the Algarve region
Dates: February 2026 (dates to be confirmed)
The Volta ao Algarve is one of Europe’s most respected early-season professional cycling races, drawing world-class teams and riders to Portugal’s south each February. Over several stages, the peloton travels through coastal roads, historic towns and challenging inland climbs, showcasing the Algarve’s remarkable geographical diversity. From seaside sprints to dramatic hill finishes, the race offers unforgettable viewing opportunities for cycling fans.
Spectators often follow multiple stages, turning the event into a moving festival that passes through Faro, Lagos, Tavira and smaller interior villages. Having a hire car is especially valuable during the Volta, allowing visitors to reach prime viewing points and explore quieter inland areas between stages. Arriving smoothly via Faro Airport Transfers makes it easy to settle in before the race excitement begins.

4. Algarve Bike Challenge
Location: Tavira and surrounding trails
Dates: 27 February – 1 March 2026
The Algarve Bike Challenge is a three-day mountain biking stage race that highlights the region’s rugged natural beauty beyond its beaches. Based around Tavira, riders tackle a prologue followed by demanding stages through coastal tracks, forest paths and barrocal landscapes. The event attracts international cyclists seeking technical courses paired with mild winter conditions and stunning scenery.
Even for non-participants, the race brings energy to Tavira, with spectators, support crews and cyclists filling the historic centre. It’s an excellent opportunity to experience the Algarve’s quieter eastern side, combining sport with traditional architecture, riverside walks and local cuisine. A rental car allows easy access to trail viewing points and nearby nature areas that are otherwise difficult to reach.

5. International Sand Sculpture Festival (FIESA)
Location: Pêra / Lagoa area
Dates: From early March 2026
Opening in early March, the International Sand Sculpture Festival is one of the Algarve’s most distinctive cultural attractions and the largest sand sculpture exhibition in the world. Artists from across the globe transform thousands of tons of sand into intricate, towering works of art, often themed around history, pop culture or global landmarks. The scale and detail of the sculptures are impressive, making the festival engaging for visitors of all ages.
Running through spring, FIESA is perfectly timed for travellers extending their February stay into March. Located inland from the main resorts, it’s best reached by car, making it an ideal addition to a flexible Algarve itinerary. Combining the festival with nearby wineries, countryside drives or coastal beaches adds depth to the experience.

With festivals and events unfolding across multiple towns, seamless transport can transform a good trip into a great one. Faro Airport Transfers offer a stress-free start, delivering visitors directly from Faro Airport to their accommodation without delays. From there, Lagos Car Hire provides the freedom to move effortlessly between carnivals, races, exhibitions and hidden coastal gems — ensuring every moment in the Algarve is spent enjoying the journey rather than planning it.

Beyond the Algarve’s famous beaches lies a quieter, more authentic Portugal — a land of whitewashed villages, hidden coves, and untamed beauty. October is the perfect time to explore it all: warm days, peaceful roads, and room to wander.
With Lagos Car Hire , you can uncover these secret corners at your own pace — where every turn leads to a new discovery.

1. Cacela Velha – the Lagoon Village Overlook
Tucked above the sweeping channels of the Ria Formosa, Cacela Velha feels like a place out of time. Its churchyard and old fortress walls offer sweeping views over salt flats, estuaries, and distant barrier islands. A short walk or boat ride brings you to a quiet sand spit beach that is rarely busy. In October, when the light softens and migratory birds arrive, this becomes a place for stillness, reflection, and photography.
Park above the village, wander the little lanes, then drive around to discover hidden viewpoints along the lagoon’s edge. Having your own transport means you can stay until sunset, when the water mirrors the sky in orange and pink.

2. Praia da Carreagem – rugged wild coast of Aljezur
Far from the Algarve’s typical postcards, Praia da Carreagem lies along the Atlantic flank of the Vicentine Coast Natural Park. The path down from the cliffs is steep, but it leads to a moody beach of dark sand and sculpted rock forms. At low tide, you’ll discover tiny tidal pools and hidden nooks. The silence is deep — only the rhythmic surf and wind accompany you.
With a car, you can time your visit (morning light or evening calm) and combine it with stops at nearby villages or viewpoints without chasing schedules.

3. Pego do Inferno – a secret inland pool by Tavira
Often called “Hell’s Pool,” Pego do Inferno is a small waterfall cascading into a green-blue basin nestled in woodland near Tavira. The path is rural and unassuming; the reward is seclusion, dappled light, and a natural swimming hole (when open). October’s gentle flow and cooler shade make it an ideal respite from the sun.

4. Praia dos Três Castelos – natural sculptures by the sea
In the stretch west of Portimão, Praia dos Três Castelos is defined by three prominent sea stacks and an array of “algares” (sea caves, hollows, and natural arches). At low tide, you can walk through arches, peer into crevices, and feel surrounded by stone that seems carved by invisible hands. Behind the scenes, a cliff-top path offers sweeping coastal views.
You can easily stop at nearby beaches, sample local food, and return on your schedule — no dependency on bus routes. Lagos Car Hire’s unlimited mileage ensures you aren’t penalized for exploring wide.

5. Ferragudo – the quiet village across the river
Just across the Arade River from lively Portimão sits Ferragudo, a fishing village of white houses, colorful doors, and calm riverfronts. Its narrow alleys, cozy cafés, and old waterfront charm contrast sharply with the nearby bustle. In October, evenings slow down — the light softens and locals come out to share stories under lampposts.
You can explore the old castle (Castelo de São João do Arade), visit nearby hidden beaches, and dine riverside without worrying about catching a ferry back. Ferragudo is just one elegant stop among many when your car is your key to exploration.

The Algarve’s real beauty lies off the main road — in its quiet villages, hidden beaches, and untamed coastlines. With Lagos Car Hire, you have the freedom to find them all.
No rush, no limits — just you, the open road, and the Algarve at its most authentic.

The Algarve, in southern Portugal, is a special location since it has 150 kilometers of coastline that faces the Atlantic Ocean. The area is one of the most developed tourist destinations in all of Europe and offers the ideal blend of natural beauty and historic legacy.
The Algarve, which is frequently mistakenly referred to as Portugal’s “mass tourism” zone, yet has a wealth of choices for a vacation rich in both culture and nature.

1.Praia do Camilo
One of the most well-liked beaches in the Algarve is Praia do Camilo, and it is simple to understand why. The beach is certainly a paradise with its golden sands, pure waters, and beautiful vistas.
The beach, the sea, or the adjacent cliffs and caves can all be visited while tourists are there. Although most visitors come here to set up shop for the day and lounge in the sun, the beach’s length of over 600 meters makes it ideal for a leisurely stroll along the water’s edge.

2.Praia dos Irmaos
One of the Algarve’s most alluring beaches is the Three Brothers Beach (praia dos Tres Irmaos). It is a very well-liked beach among Portuguese people, making it the perfect site to spend a day at the shore while taking in the Algarvian sun and the idyllic blue seas that fall into the cliff’s rock.
Praia dos Tres Irmaos has a highly appealing characteristic that “almost” makes it unique. Through tunnels cut into the rock, you can access numerous beaches and coves of unending beauty that are connected to it.

3. Ponta da Piedade
Ponta da Piedade is a point located west of the city of Lagos. Exploring the seaside rock formations in the Algarve is one of the coolest things to do, and this is surely one of the finer examples.
Erosion has created several incredible features, including pinnacles, arches, and sea caves. Its location, which offers breathtaking views of the coastline in all directions, makes it a great site to watch the sun rise and set! You can either go down the 190 stairs or take use of the many lookout points from the top of the cliffs to get a better view of the cove with the arches.

4.Tres Castelos
Tres Castelos is a fairly large town on the coast that is situated right in the middle of it. In a particular spot, the sea stack is incredibly close to the tall cliff, making the distance between them impressive to cross.
As you move between the stacks, you feel quite little, yet isn’t it wonderful what mother nature can do to something as robust as rock? It is among the Algarve’s most magnificent sites without a doubt.

5. Sagres
The Algarve’s southernmost point, the shore of Sagres, is the greatest location to watch dolphins. From the shore or by taking a boat tour from one of the local towns, you may observe marine life.
Due to the powerful waves, the location is also well-liked by surfers. Numerous bike and hiking routes can be found along the cliffs, and if you’re searching for isolation, here is the finest location to uncover secret bays and less-visited beaches. One of the best things to do in the Algarve for nature enthusiasts is to explore this shoreline.

You can always count on receiving excellent taxi services and car rentals while enjoying the most special moments of your life and creating priceless memories with your family and friends in the Algarve with the assistance of Faro Low Cost Transfers and Faro Car Hire.

The Algarve is the ideal location in Europe for a winter vacation. The stunning Algarve region in southern Portugal welcomes guests with breathtaking vistas, countless beaches, charming coastal towns and unique festivals and events.
For those wishing to get away from the cold during the winter, this sun-kissed region of southern Portugal is a great choice.
Blissfully quiet beaches, peaceful hiking trails, staggering cliffs, colorfully tiled fishing villages, and breathtaking landscapes are only some of the things you can expect from Algarve in winter.
If you’re looking for European winter sun, Algarve is the place to be! Enjoy the amazing December festivals with your family and friends in Algarve!

1. Christmas in Lagos 2022- December 1st to January 6th | Location: several streets in Lagos
The Camara de Lagos organizes different Christmas activities in the city’s streets to celebrate the holidays while you’re on vacation in the Algarve. Even though this event seems only be for children, adults can also experience the enchantment of Christmas. From December 3 to December 24, go to Aldeia do Natal in Praça do Infante to see the fabled Santa Claus. Allow the kids to daydream while they listen to the city library’s promoted reading of Christmas stories in the same location. On this court, workshops on face painting, balloon modeling, creation of nativity scenes, badges, puppets and much more will also delight the youngest on Rua Portas de Portugal.

2. Grupo Coral de Lagos- December 22th| Location: Igreja de Santa Maria
The Grupo Coral de Lagos and its children’s choir will spread magic this Christmas season, taking advantage of the moment to appeal to the most supportive side of each one in raising donations for the restoration of the pipe organ of the Church of Santa Maria.

3. The Nativity scene
Portugal genuinely has a unique Christmas spirit. One such instance is nativity scenes (presépios), which are becoming less common in Northern Europe.
Nativity scenes are very popular in Portugal. Around Christmas, you may find them all around Portugal, frequently by the side of the road close to roundabouts. A common sight in many Portuguese cities are live nativity scenes, in which participants dress as members of the Christmas tale.

4. The Consoada
The Consoada, or Christmas feast, is served on the evening of December 24. The most traditional option for Christmas supper is likely bacalhau, the national cuisine of Portugal. However, octopus is also popular in the Algarve and in the country’s north.
Bolinhos de Bacalhau and Rissóis de Camaro, two fish-based salgados, are expected to be the starters.
Despite being a Catholic, it is not unexpected that bacalhau is consumed at Christmas because the Portuguese adore it. The delicious bacalhau recipe used for Christmas, Bacalhu de Consoada, is unexpected.

5. New Year’s Eve in Lagos- December 31st to January 1st | Location: Praça do Infante
Why not start the year off on the right foot by the sea and in a festive atmosphere? Gather all your friends and family and enter 2023 celebrating life. On this special night there will be party, music and entertainment all night long at Praça do Infante, in the center of Lagos. The Portuguese band The Gift will perform with the usual great songs and at midnight watch the sky to watch a light and color show with the usual fireworks. Start planning your New Year’s Eve as soon as possible.

Winter events in the Algarve may not mean beaches and long sunny days, but there is so much to discover about Europe’s best kept secret that the days will seem very short. Take advantage of the upcoming festive season and spend memorable days at the events in the Algarve with your family and friends, always relying on Lagos Car Hire for car rentals, which provides hassle-free and high quality services for amazing experiences and trips!

Welcome to the wonderful Portugal, the place where Christmas is the absolute expression of joy, peace, celebration and gratefulness.
Portugal has its own Christmas celebrations, a traditional Christmas in Portugal usually takes place on the 24th December, the day where many families and friends gather to celebrate the “Consoada” feast, where they exchange gifts and enjoy delicious dishes, such as Bacalhau (codfish) and Bolo Rei, which is the Portuguese version of a Christmas cake.

Algarve is one of the most beautiful places in Portugal, where you have so many treasures to discover and so many locations to admire and enjoy. This is the most wonderful time of the year to visit Algarve, due to all the sparkling special festivities, the heart warming customs and traditions and the welcoming people which will definitely amaze you and win your heart.

Situated to the west of Algarve, Carvoeiro is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Algarve. Originally a fishing village, Carvoeiro is now a very popular destination with a wide range of visitors and it’s considered to be one of the most remarkable destinations with the most picturesque beaches.
Algar Seco, Carvoeiro, is famous for the Carvoeiro boardwalk, a picturseque cliff top starting from Nossa Senhora da Encarnacao fort until the Algar Seco rock formation. This destination is the accurate definition of an astonishing, cheeerful and abolutely breathtaking afternoon together with your family and friends.

For history enthusiasts and lovers, an extraordinary attractive location in Algarve is Alcoutim, an almost unchanged village which preserves its authenticity and ancient charm, situated on the banks of the river Guadiana. The steep cobbled streets seem to lead to the riverside through a mix of low, whitewashed cottages and little squares.
Although it has lost the walls that for centuries surrounded it, and despite some modern constructions, Alcoutim’s steep and narrow streets still maintain much of the calm atmosphere, typical of an algarvian hill town.
This incredibly enchanting location is worth visiting especially in the holiday season, you will definitely find it exceptionnally magical.

Salema is situated on one of the most unspoilt coastal regions of Algarve, the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park.
Situated at the top of a cove that features magnificent rock formations and a beautiful sandy beach that is lined with the old houses that formed the original village, this location is as both scenic and tranquil – the ideal place to take unforgettable strolls and to simply seize the moment.
Another charming aspect about this place resides in Praia da Salema, where you will find gold and orange limestone cliffs typical of Algarve. Some of the oldest sections actually date to the Lower Cretaceous period, so they’re around 150 million years old!

There are a lot of activities and events around Algarve during Christmas holidays, from festive concerts and parades to nativity scene.
Come and enjoy this special holiday in Algarve, Portugal, with your family and friends, surrounded by the most beautiful landscapes and unique atmosphere, always counting on Faro Low Cost Transfers and Lagos Car Hire, which provide excellent transfers and car rental services, whenever you need!

Situated in Portugal, the enchanting Algarve is the perfect holiday destination to discover new beautiful places and to enjoy its rarest hidden gems with your family and friends.
The pleasant clime of 28 degrees ( let’s face it, it’s a great weather for this time of the year) and remarkable location will make fall in love even more with these unique places, because you’ll first fall in love with the amazing vibrant atmosphere and the welcoming warmth of the people.

Benagil Cave
Located between Carvoeiro and Armação de Pêra and probably one of the most beautiful caves you have ever visited, Benagil Cave’s first appearance and impression is the one of an imposing magnificent cathedral, due to its distinguished ”architecture” which offers the cave a royal air, surrounded by dazzling crystal clear waters.
Whoever visits it will feel like stepping into a royal palace embraced by breathtaking views.
The color oscillation of the walls, from orange, yellow and white, to an explosion of unbelievable colors might make you start doubting they are heavenly natural and not created by human beings. Another phenomena which strikes admiration is the beach from the interior of the Cathedral of Benagil and its sea water, which acquires a turquoise colour inside the cave, which transports the visitors to a paradisaical island in the middle of the Pacific.
Considered by the Michelin Guide to be the 15th most beautiful cave in the world, the Benagil Cave is definitely a spectacular location, worth to be visited.

Ponta da Piedade
Holding the proud title of the most beautiful beach in the world, Ponta da Piedade is an idyllic destination not to be missed, a stunningly beautiful section of a coastline gathering a fantasy landscape of caves, grottoes and sea arches that nature has sculpted in the cliffs over thousands of years.
Located 2 km from Lagos on the Costa d’Oiro and full of grottos, unknown bays and quiet beaches, the Ponte da Piedade is particularly captivating when viewed from the sea.
The fascinating stories of these oddly shaped rocks are quite famous among the locals and the fishermen. Some names given to these misshapen rocks and perpetuated by fishermen include General De Gaulle, Chaminé (chimney), Catedral (cathedral), Belas-Artes (fine arts), Camelo (camel), Museu (museum), Submarino (underwater), Cozinha (kitchen) and Gruta dos Amores (grotto of love).
The best part of the cliffs is located on the eastern side of the lighthouse. Here is also where you’ll find a long staircase which it will lead you to the most picturesque cove, offering the most wonderful coastline views.
The natural beauty, together with the wide diversity and the natural lush habitat of several birds and animals, which can easily be observed in the waters or near the cliffs, transform Ponta da Piedade in a magical place and a must stop for any visitor.

Pego da Inferno
Situated approximately 7km northwest of Tavira in the eastern Algarve, Pego do Inferno (which literally means ”Hell’s Pool”), is a waterfall and lake combo, once known among locals as the ”secret waterfall”, but definitely not so secret anymore, due to large amount of tourists who come to visit it every year in the pursue of adventures, amazing landscapes and unforgettable memories.
The waterfall is known as Pego do Inferno (”Hell’s Pool”/”Pit of hell”) due to a popular local legend concerning this place about a carriage that fell into the lake, never to be found. It was said that anyone who fell into it would go straight to hell.
The legend also says that the remains of the occupants of the cart, as well as the animals were never found and that divers were not able to find the bottom of the lake, which has been called (”Hell’s Pool”/”Pit of hell”) ever since.
It is definitely a destination which has to be marked on every tourist’s Halloween agenda.

Enjoy the most incredible destinations in Algarve, always counting on Lagos Car Hire, for easy and hassle free car rentals ( enjoy the 20% and 30% autumn promotions), whenever you need, as well as the excellent taxi services with Faro Low Cost Transfers, for new holiday adventures with your dear ones!

Amongst the most popular holiday locations, Algarve is the perfect place to live the most beautiful adventure, to discover new things and to enjoy the spectacular views and attractions!
You can always count on Lagos Car Hire, the best friendly help you can use during your holidays for hussle free trips and visits in Algarve and Spain as well!

Santa Maria Bay
You cannot miss the enchanting Santa Maria Bay, which is is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in Los Cabos. Prepare yourself to be amazed by this beautiful beach!
Relatively secluded, Bahía Santa María is a protected marine sanctuary, representing an excellent place for snorkeling, sunbathing or for simply enjoying the beach activities. Even if you are not looking to swim, you have the opportunity to enjoy unique landscapes in Santa Maria Bay.
The perfect time to enjoy the nature’s beauties is in the morning, for enhanced underwater visibility. This is truly one of the most beautiful places in Los Cabos and it’s definitely worth visiting.

Arco da Vila
Built on one of the medieval gateways to the city, this monumental archway was commissioned by Bishop Francisco Gomes de Avelar in the early 19th century.
The project was carried out by Italian architect Francisco Xavier Fabri and inaugurated in 1812.
On an inner niche, there is an Italian made statue of Saint Thomas of Aquinas, representing one of the finest examples of the Italian neo-classical to be found across the Algarve.
Arco da Vila is considered a unique example of Moorish architecture in Portugal, especially due to its outstanding level of preservation, as well as its place of origin.

Muralhas de Faro
The current urban layout of Faro provides an understanding of where the walls that protected the city used to be. They form a core known as Vila-Adentro (Inner Town), which contains the city´s historical quarter.
The initial idea of defending the settlement belongs to Ben Bekr, a 9th century Muslim prince from the local kingdom. It was then the Porta Árabe (Arab Gateway) was built and which can still be found in the Arco da Vila (Town Archway). After the 12th century Almohade invasion, two watchtowers were built to strengthen the defense.
In the 17th century, following the Restoration of Independence and Portuguese government in 1640, the tower battlements were flattened to keep up with the latest ballistic developments and a second line of walls was built facing the sea.
After the city´s destruction in the 1755 earthquake and their loss of importance for military defence, the walls were progressively integrated into new buildings and there are currently only some defensive features remaining.

Luxurious Pousada Palacio de Estoi
Situated only 10 kms from Faro city centre, the Pousada of Faro is famous for its neo-Baroque and neo-Rococo architecture and Versailles-style gardens.
Finished in 1909, the palace has a rococo-style décor, with frescoes, elaborate carvings, wood paneling, ornate stucco ceilings, and gilded furniture. The gardens are arranged on three levels, all connected by grand staircases decorated in vibrant blue azulejo tiles with hidden grottos below.
In 1977, the palace and its gardens, fountains, and statues were classified as a Property of Public Interest. By the 1980s, the estate had fallen into a state of disrepair and it was eventually acquired by Faro Municipal Council.
The restoration of the palace and grounds was financed by the Portuguese Tourist Office, and the palace was converted into a Pousada (a state-owned hotel in a building of historical interest).

Museu Municipal
For history and old civilizations lovers, the picturesque building of Municipal Museum is the perfect place to discover and to connect with the roots of incipient Portugal.
Located in the Old Town, The Museu Municipal, known also as the Faro Archeological Museum, is housed within the fascinating 16thcentury Convento de Nossa Senhora da Assunção (Our Lady of Assumption Convent).
The highlights include the outstanding mosaic of sea-god Oceanus, the bust of Emperor Hadrian and Agrippina, and 9th- to 13th-century Islamic artifacts.

Come and enjoy this unique adventure in Algarve, always relying on Faro Low Cost Transfers for excellent taxi services with remarkable conditions, for amazing trips and unforgettable moments with your family and friends!

Welcome to Algarve, one of the most attractive sunny places from Portugal, adorned with lovely hot sands, crystal clear waters and amazing vibrating atmosphere!
Blessed with a marvelous coastline and some of the country’s loveliest beaches, the province enjoys hot dry summers and short mild winters. Warm sea temperatures and gentle winds add to its allure.
The privileged location in the south of Portugal and the many hours of sunshine turns Algarve into one of the favorite holiday destinations ever! There are plenty of things to do in Algarve, the perfect place to relax away from the hustle of the city life, where you will definitely have a great time. Come and discover Algarve’s misteries and marvels!

Faro, the capital city of the Algarve, and its international airport is the gateway for many tourists arriving in southern Portugal. Proud of its maritime heritage, Faro remains a busy and colorful port, a charming city that’s definitely worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.
It is the Old Town, however, that sightseers will want to visit. Enclosed by solid defensive walls, Faro’s Cidade Velha sits on Roman and Moorish foundations. Apart from its outstanding wildlife, the area is rich in history with evidence of occupation dating back to prehistoric times. There are also remnants of Roman and Phoenician settlements in the area. Ancient Greek chroniclers described Cabo de São Vicente as ”the end of the inhabited earth”.
The imposing lighthouse from Cape St. Vincent contains the largest warning light in Europe for both marine and air traffic. Here there’s a bird-watching festival every October which will definitely astonish the bird lovers.

The town’s medieval collection of castle walls and graceful churches always captures the imagination of passers by, but it’s the coastline that enchants the visitors and tourists. In this idyllic place you can enjoy the most beautiful moments with your family and friends!

Associated with the fishing activity for centuries, Alvor flourished in time and, nowadays, most of its economy is dependent of the tourism industry.
In this absolutely enchanting corner of paradise you can admire some places like the Misericórdia Church, the town market (mercado municipal) and Ria de Alvor, a place where you’ll find beautiful different birds’ species.
