Burgau is a small village close to the west coast of the Algarve, sometimes considered to be the region’s version of Cornwall, mostly a comparison made by the plethora of UK visitors to the region

The village itself is a picturesque little place on the Atlantic Ocean, where you can still see fishermen repairing their nets and lobster pots. The village itself is set on steep hills and features a number of stairs as well as narrow and cobbled streets.

The beach area is something of a cove, beautifully surrounded by large cliffs being nicely protected from winds and featuring great golden sand. The tides cover most of the beach as well as the nearby parking area so keep that in mind, thankfully there is lots of parking at the top of the village.

A great way of taking in the place is to walk down from the top of Burgau and explore as many bars and restaurants as possible. Depending on your budget, you should expect to pay a little more for drinks and food the closer you get to the sea, however on top of the village you’ll get cheaper prices.

The overall feel of the village is that of a typically charming Algarve village featuring whitewashed cottages and townhouses which offers quite a few quality gift shops as well as mini supermarkets for those who are self catering.
