Having been founded back in 2011, the Algarve Pro Racing Team is an auto racing team based in the Algarve – as it name clearly points out – meant to bring together youthful spirit with vast racing experience in order to attract new drivers to the possibility of representing the region in the continent’s biggest competitions.

The team’s founder was Stewart Cox, a successful Formula 1 chief mechanic who simply ‘fell in love’ with the region of the Algarve during the Formula Ford Championship. Many people will say that after their trip to the Algarve but not all of them choose to move here and open a business.

Well Stewart isn’t your average guy so in an effort to combine this two passions, motorsports and the Algarve, he created the Algarve Pro Racing Team and then recruited a bunch of enthusiastic and motivated Portuguese mechanics and engineers.

The Team has recently formed a partnership with the Sheraton Algarve Hotel in an effort to promote the region together. The partnership was announced back in may at the Tabu Lounge in the Sheraton where the driving team was also officially presented.

The main focus of the team for 2013 is to use their Le Mans Prototype vehicle to participate in the final three races of the European Le Mans Series: Red Bull Austria, Hungaroring and Paul Ricard.

These races will be a good test and preparation for the year 2014 when the team is planning to participate in the Daytona 24hr and Sebring 12hr races in the United States.

The team has grown from a small one that offered driver training to one capable of participating in racing challenges such as those mentioned earlier. In the long run the goal of the team is to promote young and upcoming drivers, as well as promoting the region of the Algarve for other European teams to come here and test their vehicles.

People don’t talk about Algarve in the off-season as much as they should, I mean we did talk about Algarve in the winter season a while back, but that only scratches the surface of the great experience that one will have if they go to the Algarve in the off-season.

Actually the months of September and October are some of the best months to visit the Algarve – because during these months the average temperatures tend to hover around the mid to high 20’s, in the shade, so it will still be hot by pretty much most standards.

Yeah, there might be the odd shower now and again, on one of the few overcast days, but that is still nothing compared to the weather in the more northern parts of Europe, especially the British Isles.

But even in the case of rain, it won’t last nearly as long as it would in other parts of the continent, and usually after the rain the sun will come right up and make it possible to go out in a t-shirt and shorts, so you can still enjoy your day without that much of a hindrance.

One major advantage of visiting the region in these months is that the beaches will be considerably less crowded, and pretty much all of their attractions and activities will still be available, if anything the sometimes higher winds will make it even better for those who enjoy surfing, kite-surfing or wind-surfing.

On the other hand those who are more interested in exploring the Algarve will find it so much more pleasant to walk in the weather during these months. The much less hotter weather makes going on a castle tour of the Algarve with the help of some Algarve car hire services that much easier to undertake, because the very hot weather of the summer can be quite a problem for visitors from normally cooler countries.
